Anyone know a place where a teen can volunteer in Corpus Christi, Texas?
ok. I am volunteering at the hospital, little did I know it's only once a week. I need the hours for my college application... anyway I live in Corpus Christi, Texas. I need a place to volunteer at from monday through thursday or friday. I get out of the hospital at 1 so wellll if it's starts around there then that'll work out on Tuesdays just fine. I could find one myself but summer already started and every where I looked, it's too late to sign up. PLEASE HELP! I NEED MY MOM TO GET OFF MY ASS! Oh and btw... I am 15, age counts ALOT

Call the United Way and they will help you find places to Volunteer. Call the Volunteer Center at 361-887-8282. Here is the website: http://www.uwcb.org/volunteer.cfm They know which organizations teen can volunteer with. And it is easier to call them than to call every other place in town. But here are some places that need volunteers ( I do not know the age requirements). The Airport http://www.corpuschristiairport.com/?fuseaction=main.view&page=2110 The Literacy Council http://ccliteracy.org/volunteer/ The museum of Science and History http://www.corpuschristimarina.com/?fuseaction=main.view&page=2549 The Rise School http://riseschool.org/corpuschristi/volunteer.html Also, the no kill shelter always needs help. So do the local nursing homes. And the YWCA. And The Texas State Aquarium Habitat for Humanity Etc. Here is another site that lists volunteer opportunities: http://volunteercorpuschristi.com/ I strongly urge you to call the United Way Volunteer Center and tell them what you will be going to school for. They are great at placing you in an area that will teach you the skills you can grow on. It is never too late to be a volunteer. You just have to do the legwork and make the phone calls and not give up. There are too many people in this town for us not to need volunteers. PS- Hi Neighbor. Oh and make sure you take two days a week for you. Be it the weekend or two days during the week. Some vounteer opportunities are very rewarding but can be equally demanding of you. Sometimes the pain you see other's going through can take a toll on you. Give yourself time each week to refresh and center yourself. And remember, even the smallest amount of help makes a difference. And If they do not thank you, God thanks you. Also, if you belong to a Church, go to the director and ask about volunteering there. I know many churches that need people to man phones, clean out storage spaces, etc. Even if you are behind the scenes in whatever opportunity you are given, take the opportunity. Grunt work allows for those who are more experienced to have more time to help others. And without someone there to do it, someone misses out on help. Plus when they see that you are dependable, do not complain. And are pleasant and hard-working, they are likely to add to your list of duties which leads to you learning more about helping others. So remember, we all start somewhere and every part of volunteering is important for an agency or organization to run well. Don't be afraid to be the one in the background sorting clothes, answering phones, cooking a meal, serving a meal, cleaning kennels, painting, etc. Serving others is a gift. And be more respectful of your mother. You cannot serve God and not honor your parents. The bible tells us to honor our parents. Ya, they all get on our nerves sometimes. But we still have to be respectful Oh and one more thing. Buy a blank Journal and write in it every day this summer. Do not go back and read the previous pages. At the end of the summer go back and read it all. You will be surprised by how much you have learned
